Children lead to remarkable and instructive excursions. We
want the best for them, and we want to grow up to be happy, successful,
responsible, caring and contributing members of society. And with our children, we learn more about our own value system, and we try to teach little life lessons.
Our girls decided they wanted to go. My
wife and I have mounted several times before, but this was a totally
different experience, and we begin to see activity as parents, and
through the eyes of our children. We quickly realized the actual conduct is only a small part of the overall activity. It's all horses. Their
horses, environment, equipment, the process of learning, friendships,
events, etc. So we decided it would be fun to document and share what we
teach our children in the course of time .
We're still a little puzzled why our children have had him immediately, but the benefits were quickly apparent. Children
leading to acquire an incredible amount of confidence as they learn to
manage, control and get a reproducible animal many times its size
answers. Although
the process of obtaining the saddle, get the reins of the horse's head,
and brake in the mouth can be a challenge, especially for children, but
realize once again is a great injection of confidence. Confidence continues to grow as they learn the intricacies of walking, jogging, running, spinning, and stop the horse. We found that to find something to help your child gain confidence, be extended to other areas of your life is very obvious.
Equally
important, children learn to be responsible for horses - grooming,
feeding and exercising what is essentially a great pet for them with job
retention, taking care of them when they are
sick or injured, etc., is a huge responsibility, and just seem to step
up and do it, because for them, life lessons not to learn, is just plain
fun. While
on one hand I'm worried about my children grow faster than necessary,
and grow is inevitable, we can also make the learning and growth process
as fun as possible, and to be responsible is obviously a central
attribute develop.
There are many other less obvious advantages but equally valuable. Obviously horse is not like playing a sport like tennis or football or basketball. But physical activity and time to ride the horse improves coordination, balance and core strength. Even
when they are not traveling, we found that children are constantly
active in the barn, make new friends, visit other horses, help with
homework, etc., it is better to be with them sitting in front of the television, or friends getting into trouble.
The
only drawback that we have identified so far is that there is a
learning curve that must pass by parents with their children right. Terminology, anatomy, gear, horse barn conversation, competitions and events .... whatsoever. It is not as difficult as a foreign language, but you get the idea. Children
riding just seem to absorb as quickly, while adults eventually learn
from them, that certainly feels like a much slower pace. The bottom line is that, because of the benefits of riding for our children, we have become advocates for children horse.
If
you find a better way than riding for children to develop confidence
and responsibility, and have such fun doing it, you should jump on it -
it will pay dividends.
